Album cover design for Alvaleken by Swedish fiddle player Mats Edén. Mats Edén is a respected folk musician in both Sweden and Norway. Over the years he has composed many tunes and Alvaleken is a collection of some of them. I wanted to give a homely feeling of stepping into Mats' rich archives. On the cover I use Mats’ handwriting and one of his fiddles. The background paper structure gave me associations to old sheet music. Being in this visual universe, I felt the need to contrast this “old” archive vibe with something else. This is why I chose to use Didot as a display font - this typeface, which might be more associated with the fashion industry than with the folk music scene, adds freshness.
